Just for starters, there’s Madeline’s estranged stepsister Lucy, Johanna’s aggressive husband Dalton, and young waitress Mellie, who’s been having an affair with Wes. The impending sense of doom and dread that author Heather Gudenkauf achieves is completely absorbing. We loved the twisty layers of deception, secrets, and lies that mount until she fits in the final puzzle piece, connecting the past and present in a truly shocking way.
